What to Expect

Psychosexual Therapy

Single Session Therapy

Single Session Therapy

As part of the therapeutic process, I will carry out a psychosexual assessment of any reported sexual/relationship problem. The assessment phase may take 2 sessions dependent on the difficulty you are presenting with, before I formulate and recommend a treatment plan.

From the assessment, we will explore any contributing factors, which may be physical, emotional, social or sexual (Sometimes, sexual problems can stem from non-sexual conditions or experiences!).

A bespoke treatment plan will be recommended, with regular monitoring or adaptation in session, throughout your journey.

In some cases, psychosexual therapy may alleviate or fully treat a sexual problem, however sometimes further investigation, or referral into health services may be required, with your consent.

Therapy is not "one size fits all", everyone's journey is unique

Single Session Therapy

Single Session Therapy

Single Session Therapy

Single Session Therapy (SST) is when a client chooses to have a one off or on demand therapy session. Clients may choose to do this if they want to receive advice about a specific problem without committing long-term to therapy.

These sessions are for 50-minutes and I will ask you about your circumstances and what you are specifically needing advice with.

In cases of psychosexual difficulty, I will ask follow up questions so I understand your circumstances better, before I can give appropriate advice. In some cases, I may recommend that you consider longer-term therapeutic work to work through a complex difficulty.

Following a SST session, I will send you an email reiterating the advice given, for your future reference (first SST session only).

In some cases, a single session is all a client needs to feel reassured or to get direct advice about an issue that has been bothering them.

As these sessions are "on demand", there are no requirement for you to book follow up sessions. However, some clients later choose to commence longer-term therapy.

EMDR

Single Session Therapy

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), is a therapeutic technique that allows people to reprocess and recover from distressing past experiences, memories, thoughts and pain.

EMDR works by using bilateral stimulation, often with back and forth eye movement that replicates what our brains do during sleep, in combination with processing the memories.

EMDR aims to reduce the distress caused when recalling a memory, and is well researched as a treatment approach for PTSD.

As part of the process, I will conduct an assessment to explore your reason for wanting EMDR, this may take 2 sessions to complete. We will then spend time formulating a treatment plan together.

EMDR may look differently for people, some clients may get to "processing" more quickly than others or may require longer time to process. This is not a concern but is reflective of your individual needs and memories to be worked on.

I offer short-term (8 sessions or less) and long-term therapy, this is dependent on what goals you may have for therapy, what you want to address and achieve, and the treatment approach required. This will be regularly reviewed and discussed as we progress.

I aim to see clients on a regular basis, typically every 2-3 weeks. This is to support the ongoing therapeutic process, and to allow for recommended exercises or treatment plans to be implemented between sessions.

Anyone who has a specific concern that they want addressing can benefit from a single therapy session.

Reasons why clients may seek SST:

Anxiety around a particular event or experience. Seeking reassurance or advice about a sexual problem or concern. Wanting to discuss treatment options for psychosexual issues (Vaginismus, Erectile Dysfunction, Rapid Ejaculation etc).

Please note this is not an exhaustive list, if you are unsure if this is a suitable approach, feel free to reach out for an introductory call first.

EMDR is an intensive therapeutic technique and works best when used consistently.

It is recommended that you have sessions weekly, for a minimum of 6 weeks at a time. We would then discuss continuing weekly sessions, or having a break of 6 weeks before recommencing EMDR.

This approach does differ depending on individual need and is regularly reviewed in therapy.
